Strength Training – Why It’s SO Important!

Regular exercise has long been associated with improved mental well-being, but a new study suggests that strength training may provide even more mental health benefits than aerobic exercise. The study, which was published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, found that strength training can improve mental health by reducing anxiety, improving self-esteem, and coping with stress. Since I started consistent weight training years ago, I can tell you first hand how transformative it has been for my mind, body, and soul.  Which is why while coming up with the outline of NW365, I knew incorporating a strength training workout program was a must!

In the newest NW365 Spring edition, I have added instructional videos to each exercise prescribed in the program. I did this to provide higher quality content to practice proper form and also as a referral source for your exercise program.  If you’re a visual person like me, having a video is much more effective.  Having both a written description and video will give you the option to follow along with the daily programs or give you the option to mix and match the movements that are your favorites.  The ultimate goal is to get you to start a strength training routine and be consistent with it!

We will also be providing live training sessions in our private Facebook group to give you other options of programming and to provide an additional sense of motivation with a certified coach.

Now more than ever, paying attention to your physical and mental health is so important! I personally work out 5-6 days a week. I have completed the program included in NW365 many times, train daily at a local gym here in Weston, Florida and love hopping on my Peloton bike or getting outdoors for a walk.  I coach all my clients on ways to improve with consistency, and be the best version of themselves!

One of the most important things when it comes to strength training is consistency. It can be easy to start strong and then fizzle out a few weeks later. Here is why in NW365 I have included 1:1 sessions! Many times all we need is someone to vent, brag, complain or just share emotions of success or defeat with. We like to schedule these 2-3 weeks into the program right from the start to prepare for these moments.  This is a great way to have accountability and success with your lifestyle changes.

Here are three ways to stay consistent with your workouts so you can see the results you want:

First, find a workout routine that you enjoy and stick to it. It doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. Just something that you can do consistently, whether it’s going for a run outside or working out at home with some dumbbells. We provide a program inside NW365 however, if you already have a routine, feel free to replace it with your own.

Second, set realistic goals for yourself and track your progress. This will help you stay motivated and see the progress you’re making, even if it’s slow.

Finally, find a workout buddy or accountability partner to share your daily routines with!  This will help you stay accountable and motivated to keep working out, even on days when you don’t feel like it. There are two ways we offer this in NW365. First, through our Facebook group! Feel free to share any experiences, struggles or successes.  Also, feel free to include images or videos and engage with our community. We are all here to support each other so take advantage of this resource.  Second, through our 1:1 coaching sessions with me! This is another opportunity to bounce any information you may have about the program or even discuss ways to individualize the program to help with your success.

Strength training is a great way to improve physical, mental, and emotional health. It can reduce anxiety, improve self-esteem, and help you cope with stress. It sure does for me!  If you are looking for a program to develop new healthy ways of living to be the best version of yourself, I know I can help!
